Fees


The ABA requires all fees be paid via credit card (Visa, American Express, MasterCard or Discover) through the physician's portal account. Deadlines are 11:59 p.m. EDT/EST on the last day of registration. ABA fees are subject to change.

Fees paid to the ABA are non-refundable except when:

  • an individual withdraws from residency or fellowship training and has a fee on account.
  • an individual passes away and has a fee on account.

2015 Fees


In 2015, the ABA is implementing a new registration system to replace the traditional process, which included separate application and exam fees. Candidates who register on or after March 1, 2015 will pay one registration fee in the same year as the exam. Candidates who applied to take an exam prior to June 30, 2014 as part of the traditional process will pay only the exam fee since they previously paid only the application fee.

Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA) Fees

There is a single fee that diplomates must pay for each 10-year MOCA cycle. This fee, due upon registration for the Cognitive Examination, covers the administration of the MOCA program for the entire 10-year period and one opportunity to take the Cognitive Examination.

MOCA Reinstatement Fee

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, all diplomates who do not complete the MOCA program in 10 years must pay a reinstatement fee for each year (up to three years) they continue in the program (Years 11, 12 and 13).

The fee is cumulative, so physicians who do not pay until Year 12 must pay the fee for Years 11 and 12 ($1,050); physicians who do not pay until Year 13 must pay the fee Years 11, 12 and 13 ($1,575).
