Board publishes white paper for diplomates and medical community following its Innovation Summit

Key Points:

  • White paper highlights key insights presented at our Innovation Summit, which was designed to help us reimagine continuing certification program for anesthesiologists
  • The Summit, hosted in April in Palo Alto, Calif., brought together thought leaders in adult education, medicine and technology
  • The white paper captures practical advice and aspirational implementation of emerging trends in technology and education

Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 1, 2019) – The American Board of Anesthesiology (ABA) today published a white paper that chronicles key themes from an Innovation Summit we hosted in Palo Alto, Calif. in April to explore how trends in learning science and technology can further transform the Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology® (MOCA®) program.

The Innovation Summit white paper examines visionary ideas—from artificial intelligence (AI) to evolving education techniques—and practical advice presented at the summit by experts in AI, workplace education, and medical training and research. The speakers and summit participants, many of whom are practicing anesthesiologists, brought unique perspectives on how to engage diplomates in lifelong learning and assessment through continuing certification.

“We convened the Innovation Summit as part of our enduring commitment to rigorously evaluate and further enhance the MOCA program,” said Deborah J. Culley, M.D., secretary of the Board. “Our Innovation Summit white paper allows us to share what we’ve heard from experts with our diplomates and the broader community as we continue to reimagine the future of continuing certification for anesthesiologists.”

The Summit, along with feedback from diplomate focus groups, surveys, and community engagement on our blog and social media will inform and guide us as we continue to evolve continuing certification.
