ABA INTERNATIONAL (ABA-I)

Advancing global standards of excellence in anesthesiology

International partners toward excellence

ABA International (ABA-I) was established in 2012 as a subsidiary of the ABA to serve the medical needs of other nations and regions while helping develop a high-quality physician workforce. ABA-I offers ABA’s In-Training Examination (ITE) and American-style certification to international residents and physicians respectively, in partnership with the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).

The work of ABA-I upholds the ABA’s mission to advance the highest standards of the practice of anesthesiology as it strives for excellence in anesthesiology worldwide. It also aligns ABA assessment standards internationally with an ACGME-I-approved graduate medical education program, including the use of time-limited certification and continuing certification.

If you are interested in partnering with ABA-I, please contact us.

A small group of four nurses sit together around a table as they meet to discus patient cases and their plans of care. They are each dressed professionally in scrubs and have stethoscopes around their necks and various files and papers can be seen spread out on the table in front of them. They are each looking down at the documents on the table as a female nurse shares them with the group.

Alternate Entry Path program

Are you an international medical graduate practicing anesthesiology in the U.S. but hold a certification from the national anesthesiology organization in the country where you trained?

You may qualify to pursue ABA certification in anesthesiology through our Alternate Entry Path (AEP) program.
